Lost filling or crown
A crown that comes off can often be cemented back the same day, as long as the tooth underneath is sound. A lost filling leaves the tooth open to sensitivity and further damage.

If your crown has come off
- Keep the crown safe in a clean container and bring it with you.
- Don’t use superglue or household glue. It can damage the tooth and stop us re-fitting the crown.
- A pharmacy temporary cement can hold it for a day or two if you need it.
- Chew on the other side, and keep the area clean.
If a filling has fallen out
- Rinse, and keep the hole clean. A pharmacy temporary filling kit can cover it for a short time.
- Avoid very hot, cold or sweet things on that side.
- If it starts to throb or keep you awake, book sooner. That suggests the nerve is involved.
What we do
- Re-cement the crown if the crown and tooth are sound: £79 – £108.
- Replace the filling: £153 – £263, or a quick glass ionomer filling (£161).
- If the tooth has broken under the crown, we’ll explain the options, such as a post and new crown, or a temporary crown (£126 per unit).
Cost: the emergency consultation is £54. If you need treatment, we tell you the price before we start, and nothing is done without your agreement. All fees are on our prices page, taken from The Dentist West Midlands’ price list.
